Article 05

Bored with the Sunday tabloids, I venture down to my favorite watering hole, The Ugly Squid. Though only late morning, I opt for one of my favorite cocktails, The Kriller. Now properly focused, I return to my meditation concerning faith and reason. Where I am from, there is often not much time to contemplate the consequences or meaning of faith; more often, one seeks reasoned and expeditious routes in order to make it until tomorrow.

However, in those moments of tranquility, my mind does return to these timeless
questions. I wonder if faith and reason are compatible – hum, I might need another Kriller. Suddenly, my dear friend and illustrious scientist, Dr. Smith, arrived and greeted me. Having posed my intellectual and spiritual dilemma to him, he proffered the following: it is the same God that establishes the intelligibility and the order in nature that permits me to do my work.

Refecting further with the dear Dr. Smith, it started to make some sense and your SP took respite in his assuring tone and sensible manner of explaining the seemingly inexplicable. But, though sanguine, your SP is restless in his intellectual ways and as every panguine worth his salt knows: sometimes you have to dive deeper. Thus, turning to Aquinas for help, I recall that he said to me something like nature, philosophy’s genuinely proper concern, can indeed contribute to understanding divine revelation. Breathing easy, I ordered another Kriller and enjoyed a sublime afternoon!
